Hello all from CC LA,

I thought it might be useful to put together a basic xls of Port-au-Prince neighborhood names with their Kreyol equivalents. For example, Port-au-Prince appears in many searches and on google maps as Port-au-Prince, but a high percentage of Haitian tweets, blog posts etc refer to the city as "Potoprens." If folks are working on tools intended to automatically locate incident reports and the like it might be good to have a general set of kreyol names to work with as well.

To the best of my searches I haven't found a good list of neighborhood names so I am beginning an xls. If folks have already run across this data, or are working on this, let me know I we can pool our info.

@Gary - that's a good idea but I'm not sure an xls will ultimately do the trick. If it's not already, this should be hooked into a gazetteer...for instance the OSM's Tagstat also, Humanitarian Tag Set

@btruscello - good point; the xls was my starter docs but it should hook into other tools.

Am reaching out to Andrew, but an still getting up to speed on OSM tag structure and just wanted to make sure I understood what you are advising - use the data I am collecting to populate a NAME:KR tag set that will allow me to add the Kreyol names to the OSM data?

@Gary - great question but one I'm not sure I can answer. I'll look into it if Andrew advises against using OSM to manage the data. Do you have a Google Fusion Table or Spreadsheet setup?

Yes, this sounds like a good plan. the "name:kr=" is the perfect way to put in the alternate language of placenames.
